Has anyone flown an EX3 yet that could tell me whether or not the stock lens has a standard control input? My real question is can I control the zoom using my BeBob as I would any other ENG style camera/lens, or does the EX3 require something else? If it does have a unique interface, I know it can accept 2/3" lenses with a mount adapter. Does the camera have a standard camera/lens interface that would then let me use the BeBob on the 2/3" lens?

Much thanks!

Hi Afton

The EX3 and 1 both use a non sandard zoom demand input. There are controlers out there to let you control it though. I believe Varizoom make one.

You can use pro broadcast lenses on the EX3 though. It uses 1/2inch lenses not 2/3inch, you can use a 2/3inch lens with an extra adaptor. The 1/2inch lens adaptor comes with the camera in the UK (at least mine did). This does have a magnification factor though if you use a 2/3inch lens so be carefull with your choice of lens.

As all (well most) broadcast lenses have there zoom demand built in you can use the respective controler for these lenses fuji 8/12 pin or canon 8 pin etc.

Just make sure if you get a 1/2inch lens you get a sony hotshoe mount type lens as I don't remember noticing the hirose connector for a lens connection...

This camera with a pro35 makes a very interesting and good combo! Blew our old F350 XDCAM HD into the weeds.

Hi Afton,
I used the Ex3 with a spezial zoom control from Bebob (Bebob Zeo-EX),its only made for use with sony xdcam EX1-3
like the one from varizoom.
I only worked with the EX standart lens. And the Zeo worked good for zoom and rec/stop.

I have the Libec ZC-9EX, it's very nice, will also work with Fujinon and Canon ENG lenes by unplugging the adapter and flicking a switch. BUT, the cable is far to heavy for good Steadicam use. You can set it up with neutral drag in one position, but if you have to switch it becomes a drag, so to speak.
