Did a shoot the other day and had 25mph winds. I made some make-shift antlers with a cartolini clamp and a grip arm with a knuckle at each end. I attached it to the nose of my archer sled placing the antlers about a foot in front of the post just under the lens. Because the sled was so front heavy, and I didnt have a lot of time to make adjustments, I put a hytron 140 on the back of the camera. This extra weight bottomed out my G-50 arm, but I was able to do the shot and they seemed to help. I did a search on the forum and couldnt find much, but most of the pics showed the antlers high above the camera and over the post. How much difference does it make where the antlers are and how high they are? I have a similar shot to do tomorrow or on Sat.

Thanks for any help

I can only speak for myself, but placement of the antlers is everything. If I can place them directly over the center of the post, then I have much more flexibility. I don't have to think about camera placement other than fine tuning for perfect balance. I can rotate them out of the way when I want them on but don't want the larger profile, without much change to the balance of the rig.
In thinking about it, I can't see you having a successful time of it unless you place them directly over the center post. Antlers come with a clamp that connects to the lowmode plate. It can slide fore and aft, so if the plate is centered over the post, you should be able to get them balanced without the need for additional weight on the bottom. That is if you haven't already extended your post out to the max.

...how much weight is placed on the sides of the antlers.

My antlers have both 1/2 and 1 pound weights. The 1 pounders seem a bit much, so I usually use a 1/2 pound on each side.
