Hey All,
I cannot seem to get an HD-SDI signal down the Ultra. If i go directly into the monitor from the varicam I am fine, so I know it is not the monitor.

I was trying to go through the HD Video In (4pin hirose).. I also tried going into the video (bnc) input

I dont have any spare bnc-to-hirose cables to try narrowing down the problem. Any info would be great.

Try going into the BNC marked HD-SDI on the stage, then plug directly into the monitor from the HD-SDI output at the base.

I'm pretty sure the 4 pin hirose (Vid/12v) does not support HD-SDI.

Good luck.

Rick.

edit: I've presumed you are talking about the Ultra2

It is not the ultra2. I suppose the 4-pin hirose in/out is not HD-SDI compatible on the ultra as well?
Other than running through a down converter, has anyone been able to get an HD-SDI signal through any of the inputs?

For my Ultra2, I need two cables from the sled to monitor...One Hiro and a BNC. Check the correct way... camera-HD input(sled)-two cables-HD in.
Best regards

Anthony-

The original Ultra was not set up for HDSDI.

You MIGHT be able to use one of the HD component lines (the Red or the Blue) as these are clear runs of cable inside the posts, but the Lemo connectors at each end are not designed for HDSDI (inadequate shielding is the issue, I think).

You will need a set of HD component breakout cables for the test.

The 4 pin Hirose and the BNC (the composite video input from the stage) share the "Green" line and connect to the distribution amp; that line is clearly not good for HDSDI.

Hi Jerry
On that note, I'm just about to buy a Boland HD monitor for my Master Series Broadcast sled. Can you give some details as to cable name/brand and connectors etc. that are required for me to upgrade to HD capability.

Cheers
Norbert

Yes it is the original Ultra, so this would explain it. Thanks for the tip.. I will try the component cables when I have some extra time and let everyone know if it works out.

Anthony,
I am just curious to what monitor you are using with your Ultra?

Thanks
James

I think it's going to be tough to retrofit the right connectors into the Master Series... but I'm not the techy for it. I'd contact Boland and see what they suggest (the best is a an external cable run from camera to monitor...)

The steadicam 6.5" HD monitor. It works pretty well, but Peter Abraham just stopped by ESPN and we used this new steadicam HD monitor (not sure of the model or name) and it was much nicer. Very good picture! I'm curious what the cat-5 input is for though...

On the Ultra topic, I believe the HD Component cables are broken. It might be some time before they are fixed. Until then, running a bnc outside the post doesn't bother me.
