Hi All,

I just cut a new reel. I?d appreciate any constructive criticism.

This is the link:

My old reel is still up there too. I plan on removing it soon but thought to keep both up for some feedback

Thanks in advance,

Philip

Hi Rob, and Mike

Thanks for the kind words and quick replies.

Yes I did cut the reel myself, does it show? I did it in final cut it is my 1st go at editing. I also built the website, 1st time for that too, in iweb.

No. I've done it myself before and I know what a pain in the ass it is, perticularly gettting all the different media types to look right together.

I was so close to buying a Media 100 when Final Cut first appeared in '99, just in time to save me $15K! Been cutting my reels at home ever since. There's definitely advantages (updating whenever you want without having pull favors or pay someone else) but it's good to get a second set of eyes on the material, as we all tend to cling to things that others see in different lights. In the case of Steadicam, it's usually a shot that was really hard to get for one reason or another but doesn't appear so onscreen. This year I finallly jettisoned the shot that required me to step over a supine (and portly) gent in low mode, because it wasn't that exciting as a shot but it sure was bizarre to achieve.

Still and all, especially these days with good quality streaming video available to all, it makes sense to be able to generate your own reels and post them, if that is your bent. I do feel that being an editor can only make you a better operator or DP as well.

First off, I thought the reel was great, and don't think it should be under "Seadi-Newbies"

Second, and not related to the reel- I have the new Final Cut Studio Pro, and NEVER have anything to edit.

I would be willing to play around with someones footage in my downtime if they are looking for a reel.
