Anybody hear of any cool stuff coming out of CES last week? Specifically I'm looking (as I'm sure a lot of us are) for that elusive video recorder that is small, lightweight, affordable, and full res, but interested in anything that's particularly drool-worthy.

I found it clever, but a tad immature

I don't know if I would even go as far as calling it clever. It was a bit funny, but only because I wasn't the one being abused.

As far as video recorders go I am very happy with the little archos 404 I just got. They can be had refurbished for $150, plus you need the travel adapter which is another $50. Small, light and records 640x480 with mpeg4 compression that looks damn good for what it is. Plus you can use it to watch recorded TV shows and movies, or throw your reel on there and force everyone you meet to watch it :-)

I'm all for mischief so long as it doesn't really F things up for people. But think about how great that device is...

1) Shut down video village, gain overtime
2) Transmitter screwed up? Zap the monitors - divert the blame
3) [fill in the blank]

Funny in theory, but as Joey Pants said in "Risky Business", never f*** with another man's livelihood. I feel pretty bad for those presenters.

Kind of like sneaking onto the stage next door, matching the channel on their Preston and then making theirs go haywire during a take...not that I would every do that...(joked about it though). How about remotely overpowering the stage controls on someone's Ultra and sending their rig off balance during a long walk and talk?

Well, isn't the solution simple: Set it up so that when you hit a button on the remote, the TV/FF/Sled will simply ask you for a password to continue.

Not much interesting at the ARCHOS booth but I was working and didn't have a lot of time to chat. They did notice the AV500 on my sled. He was not interested in a swap. !@#$

On the other hand, I operated Steadicam on a shoot for the Free Speech Coalition at the Adult Entertainment Expo / AVN's last Thursday and that was VERY interesting! Photo's coming soon!
