Anyone check out the Planet Earth series by the BBC? The shots are amazing- I was trying to figure out how they got some of them- and then they answered it.

This very interesting hot air ballon/ultra glider thing. check out the dvd about forests. While the camera man and pilot were in the contraption, it crashed. I found it very funny, although I bet the Camera Op wasn't laughing at the time. I will try to find a picture of it.

Anyone else know of crazy un-known contraptions made for film/tv?

The Balloon used by the BBC is called "Cinébulle" and is made by a french guy, here's his website : http://www.cleyet-marrel.com/

I met another guy making a Balloon based camera flying system but this one is remotely controlled, anyway also beautiful results, check it here : http://www.soulcam.fr/

The soul cam is basically a remote controlled blimp. Very cool. Seems like less of a hazard- for the camera operator, that is. Wouldn't want that thing flying into me though
