That's bloody fantastic. Can't wait. Might have to make that my reason to plunge into the format wars.

Just buy a HD DVD/BluRay player and you'll be covered for both formats. Half the reason I bought a PS3 was for the BluRay player. It's pretty cool.

yeah well--the LG is going for $1000, and it doesn't play CD's--don't really want to make room in the rack for another component. I'll wait a little while longer.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one Charles, 1K is too much. Back when the Laser Disc to DVD transition happened, Pioneer had a player that played both sides of Laser Discs without flipping, DVDs, and Audio CDs, and it had a nice wood finish. :P It's just time, in awhile the HD/Blu-Ray combos will be cheaper and do more.

I actually wrote a paper in college about the current format wars. I'll save you some reading and tell you that I believe Blu-ray wins. But, if you are bored and bit of a techno geek (like me) I would be happy to email it to anyone interested.

Good point. Plus 75% of movies coming out on DVD aren't in HD yet. I've only recently seen ads for movies that are being released in both formats.
There was another dual player that was out like 6 months ago that played both, but it was kind of a secret, and it was going for $700ish I think. Toshiba maybe...

Here is a fairly comprehensive list of the titles available in either format:

Blu-ray

HD DVD
