is flying a steadicam mini a good way to learn using the steadicam?.. i can imagine you would say a steadicam mini cant be compared with a full IIIa rig or yet anything that is above the mini rig. But i really would like to know if it is a good investment for later on? i really wanted to fly the mini rig on the IBC 2003 but i was so amazed by Ruben and Patrick using their "large and strong and...nevermind"... steadicam that i didnt even bothered to ask. Later on i got myself together and wanted tot kick myself but i realised that kicking myself wasnt the answer so i wacked one of my friends.

fellow steadicam enthousiasts and operators please advise......

thanks again

Dear Sander,

I guess I can post this reply without asking Ruben:

NEXT TIME ASK US !!! WE ARE HAPPY TO SHOW YOU THE RIG !!!!

especially the mini; I love it it's so much fun !

Yes it does work exactly like the "big" rig but it's got it's own features.

- It's fun!
- It's lightweight!
- It's lightweight!
- It's fun !
- It's definetly a good excerise unit !
- It's fun
- It's lightweight!

I hope to see you next time at the next IBC and don't even think about passing the MINI without asking ....

Kind regards,

Patrick "I like it a LOT" Van Weeren

All the dynamic principles are the same no matter the size of the rig. Bigger rigs can offer more features and extra trim functions, but the concepts all still hold.

To add to this, it's also (in my opinion) quite a bit more difficult to learn to keep under control then the bigger rigs.
It has considerably less mass so it's very light and whippy (sp?) to throw around.
Therefore it's really good practice, if you can keep the mini straight and level you can do it with the bigger boys (they're just a tad heavier)

Also, Sander, don't beat up your friends...it never works and I found I lose more friends that way.
For some reason they don't enjoy it as much as I do...weird huh.

Peace, Ruben "Will you be friends with me?" Sluijter

im self taught on a little hollywoodlite... i reckon its a wicked way in.. and made the money to buy my big rig...

now i need the money to buy some proper training.. (i think its very important, i have lots of questions) but i need to earn more money before i can get more training. i think maybe i learnt all the bad habits u can from my little rig and no proper guidance.

thanks guys,

i was driving towards an AV company in Nieuwegein (holland) today and i informed there about the Steadicam mini. The didnt have an demo rig setup at that time but later on the would give me a call.

I really appreciate the feedback from all of you and i hope i can afford a mini rig in the nearby future... i must say that even when you work 40 hours a week it is hard to keep all the money in your pocket even if it is for one of the things that i have set as my goal. My very own steadicam.

if someone spots a mini rig in "mint" condition for sale please inform me true mail or any other desired communication protocol.

greetings,
