im looking for more information on converting the Masters Rig over to AB. there was no useful info on the forum from my searches. so my basic questions:

who does it?

how much is it?

do you need a degree in electronics to convert it yourself?

thanks in advance for any info.

Hey Marc,

I don't know if they still make the part but I got an Master Series to AB Adapter from Tiffen a few years back.
It snaps on and is lock solid. The Master Series also came with a permanant Anton Bauer Battery Plate if you bought a broadcast version. I'm sure there has to be some replacement parts for this somewhere at Tiffen.
It's an easy swap out if you're handy with the soldering iron.

tod,

called up to canada and after speaking with david, its probably best i stay within the borders. customs both ways, etc. plus i need to have as litle a downtime as possible seeig as i have some projects coming up.

paul,

i contacted kyle/tiffen and he can get the snap on part....at 670 bux! im probably going to go this route as its easier for me to get the plate and grab some AB batts than it is to try and get my batteries recelled at tiffen for 350/brick. they do have a master battery in stock for 1100 bux...

i wish i was handy with the soldering gun but alas im not...

thanks for the info guys...

Hi y'all!

I had my master converted to a 3 battery ABsystem a couple of years ago!Baer-bel did it and it still works great! Plus you don't need the 24V converter anymore! Email me if you have any more questions!

Give Tiffen a call. They should have the conversion in stock (they did when I needed it). I think that it cost about 250$ or so and that included the Gold Mount and the adapter plate and it took me about 5 minutes to install. I hope that this helps.

hi jon,

i contacted kyle at tiffen and he told me it was 665 dollars for the plate and it would take a few weeks to get in. he stated they never keep those items in stock. maybe if i was a known operator to him then maybe he would have cut me some slack????

i just orded a plate direct from AB and will have a piece made to slide it onto the Rig. i need something now.. not in a few weeks...

Kyle's not like that at all. He would have helped you if he could have. It has nothing to do with being a known operator or not. They don't seem to like to keep very much in stock over there. It's silly, but that's the way they do things. I've had issues with having to wait for things in the past as well. I don't think Kyle can do anything about it.
For me, there's no point in switching to A/B's. My Master batteries work great and it's easy for me to get them re-celled, but I can understand how it could be a problem living in Atlanta, or anywhere else where re-celling isn't readily available. A/B's are easy to find in any city. Good luck with the change over.

brad,

that statement was made in jest.. there is some favortism in this industry as we all know but i was not trying to make a big deal out of it.

yeah living near tiffen has its pluses. maybe even if i was located near them and had a deeper relationship with tiffen then maybe things could be different.

i have some projects coming up in the coming weeks and i need dependable power. the batteries i have are not lasting long and one of them is showing a fault on the pag. its easier for me to get some ABs now and get me thru this month and worry about the masters the first of the year. plus it would be nice to have another battery option if/when the need arises.

You mean like this?

I got rid of the whole original extension, but I think it must be possible to use that too.
