Hey folks I'd love your opinions on the pros and cons of the Pro Titan Arm versus the Tiffen G-70x.

I am about to purchase my first arm, its a big investment so I'd like to make use of the knowledge within this forum.

I have tried both arms but not to the extent where I could make a decision.

Many thanks,

Greg

I don't have experience with the Tiffen arm but it is impossible to go wrong with the Pro arm. It is a bulletproof design and requires little to no maintenance. Most importantly, Pro is known for its incredible customer service. I'm not sure where you are based (that might influence your decision if you are closer to one manufacturer), but I believe the majority of A-list feature steadicam operators in North America use the Pro arm (go on the SOA website, look up your favorite operator, and see what he's using). It is a solid investment that will last your entire career and beyond. Pro arms are rarely seen on the used market, and when they do come up for sale, they sell immediately and fetch prices close to that of new Pro arms which is something you don't see with used Tiffen arms. Buying equipment is a very personal decision, but in my case, I wouldn't consider using another arm for the rest of my career. Good luck in your decision.

Hi Greg, Welcome to the Steadicam Forum. This has been discussed so many times without a final universal answer. They are both good arms with pros and cons on each side. Please have a look at the archived posts prior to posting. Thank you. See if you can test them if some operators have them in your area. Personally I have a Pro Atlas and love it.

The archives are a great tool to use but I would say there is no harm in revisiting topics from time to time as it allows new opinions and fresh ideas to surface. I've owned both Tiffen and PRO arms and presently have what is now called the Titan but wasn't when I purchased it. I really liked my Tiffen but over 5 years I had three springs break so I wanted something more bulletproof which the PRO seems to be.  I think Brooks brings up the most valuable point about the these arms and that is the resale value, which gives you a pretty good idea of the general consensus in the Steadicam Community.

hello Greg . last week i was at Gpi Pro's company at Oregon and i took my atlas arm and got the Titan. I spent almost 3 full days at the factory with Jack and the guyz. What they do out there is increeedible. they really built bullet proof gear.. i saw how my arm got built from the first screw till the last i saw how sleds and vests they built from A to Z .Everything they got there is very easy to rip apart and get everything back together easily even with zero experience. The most important thing i saw how jack spent alot of time answering calls from operators and spending hours answering to their questions which is something really really important.. What i can say and what i have been through changing 2 arms before, Pro Titan is the last arm i invest in and i say to myself i should have invested in this arm loong time ago because it is reall bullet proof and works like no other arm. i have tried almost every high end arms out there.Once you get Gpi Pro arm that will be the last arm you ever buy. Good luck in your investment
