Guys, Its my understanding that its a known issue of a few frame latency issue with Epic while shooting in 5K outputting to monitors (2.5 frames or so).  Any fix/setting or work around that someone knows of?  The lag is driving me crazy.

thanks,

Jeff

I have been experiencing delay in 4k as well although not as bad. You have to stop fast moves short and watch actors instead of monitor for critical timing. Sucks.

not surprising, they have to de-bayer and process the 5K data stream for the 1080 422 output.

quite simply put: their computer is to slow....at least you can dry your hair with this camera in-between takes.... -_-

The Epic always had a latency problem. I did tons of test on this and here is what happens:

Epic has a 2-3ms delay. Depending on the monitor you might get another 1-2ms delay and if

you have a VTR guy in between with a whole bunch of processing add another 1-2ms.

Which means by the time the signal reaches video village you are between 4-5 ms off. Which is very

visible and annoying as hell.

Always a nuisance to tell the director and clients that "this is a technical issue beyond our control".

We had some success delaying the audio signal by the same margin. However if you are on a small set

where you can hear the live audio you are out of luck.

Like the weight of the Epic (once we figured out how to build it properly), but really don't like much else about it at all.  And I'm glad others have observed the latency.  I just thought that I was way too drunk at the time.  Or not drunk enough..........

Just kidding...... About the drunk part.  Still don't really like the camera.
