Scanning through the IT-malls in Bangkok (I love this city, there are so many of these malls here!) I stumbled upon a nice alternative to the DV-cams and other recording devices that we use on our sleds:

At this moment the price is around 400 euro´s or about $ 500

It looks similar to the Ipod, without the clickwheel and only a fraction taller. Direct AV-in/output and specifications seem decent and enough for our purpose. I am very tempted to buy one. Has anyone seen, bought and used this gadget already?

It´s also sold under the brand-name TREK, but in exactly the same packaging.

it looks cool and is definately one way forward... however it looks a little NTSC for me, hoever I am not sure. with recording at 30fps.... mind you, who cares ... its video playback.

It claims

MPEG4 SP with ADPCM stereo sound, near DVD quality with up to 640 x 480 @ 30f/s, in AVI format.

I wonder datarate that really is....

I am starting to feel I really need something like this

I just had some time playing with the little gadget. It is absolutely something like the NEXT Ipod, with all the stuff you need, only a television tuner is not there (but radio is!).

However, it didn´t work well for our video recording. It does record well, but only after a start-up time of 25 seconds! And than switching back and forth between record an playback is not that straightforward either.

It´s a good thing for delayed watching of your favorite TV program, the screen is nice too, but not as an onboard recorder :(

too bad, at €400 it was not that expensive...
