Hey all,

I'm not sure if this is done here, but I'm shooting a short next weekend and we're in need of a steadicam op. I'm the DP on the project, but this is my first time using a steadicam operator.

Quick notes on the project:
1) Shooting on the Jersey shore (about an hour south of NYC)
2) Camera: Alexa Plus w/ Ultra Primes (maybe the cooke 25-250, but if this proves to be too much of a pain for steadicam--I'll kill it)
3) Can pay somewhere around $600 for the day
4) Shooting on 11/8/12 all day.

Hopefully I won't get any flack for posting. I could have called Local 600 and asked them, but I would rather find someone who's just getting started (or anyone who will work on a student price)

You might have a bit of a problem getting a student rate with that kit. Most beginner and intermediate stabilizers won't be able to hold the weight, and the systems that can hold that weight rent for more than $600 (minus the operator rate).

Wow Casey!

You’re either very courageous or extremely naïve to post about this “job” offering here.

600 USD for an all-day Alexa job (op+equipment) is beyond lowballing! You either have to raise the offer to a reasonable rate or cancel the steadi altogether.

By the way, YES Cooke 25-250 is indeed too much pain for Steadicam!! Surely not for a 600 USD job!

You do realize the Jersey Shore has been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and there not allowing anyone down there right?

Thanks for the words dudes! I assumed the 25-250 would be too much of a pain, glad I asked.

EDIT: yes, Sandy has reared her ugly head. But we haven't heard about our location so for the meantime, we need to keep moving forward no matter what.

Casey here's a good rule of thumb, if you would handhold the configuration of camera that you are asking the steadicam op fly then it's a reasonable request.

You would never hand hold a 10-1....
