I just completed my latest revision of a 3D rig, based on the Steadicam Merlin. It allows me to sync the two camcorders very precisely, monitor what I am capturing in either 2D (for alignment) or 3D (for possible stereoscopy violations), and be very mobile. I tried to mount the rig on another inertial stabilizer, but it was way to hard on the wrist. Such setup is highly mobile - and the camera motion can increase the 3D impression. Unfortunately I had to lift the cameras bit high above the pivot point, which puts the rig right at the limit of the Merlin, but it allows me to take higher quality and more predictable 3D in areas where the big rigs are either too large or too heavy to be possible to use. I posted the rig here: and here: http://www.vimeo.com/14180101 .
