Has anybody used M-One digital motors with a Preston? Any adverse reactions for AC's (who are the real reason we've got to spend so much on a FF system). I'm really happy with M-One, and the mounting hardware, and I see now that Don offers a digital motor. With the M-One all of the gears and mounting hardware that you need is included - instead of being add on extras. Thoughts?

Brad,

Contact Don and confirm the digital version of the motor is even out; I have a funny feeling that the project was delayed, but I'd hate to send out false info.....

Hi Brad, you could have a serious look at the Heden digital motors , I have one here and am very happy with it.
I think you would find the pricing very competitive.

These motors are small, lightweight and strong, fast and silent and - I think this is important too: they unlock when not powered, so the lens can be moved manually without moving the motor out of the way.
They come with gears and mounting hardware.

The biggest reason (exempt for the service, quality, etc) to get the Preston system in the first place was the Digital motor that came with the Preston set-up...

Can't be the price as all new Digital motors on the market are in the same price range, can't be the quality, so ????....

You have 4 Preston models (DM-1, DM-2, DM-3, DM-1X) to choose from and they are plug and play.

(With cringing teeth)... the Scorpio motors do work as well, plug and play. (As they use the same protocols, enough said)

I don't believe that other (digital) motors will be plug and play as they would have to accommodate the Preston protocols and do only if specifically build with Preston in mind. (All eight leads in the cable have to be connected for the Motor to work properly, I learned that when one of my cables got pinched and the motor just kept on moving.)

THe Scorpio Motors are identical to the DM2, Same motor, same gearbox, same encoder.

The Heden digital motor worked right away on my MDR-1. Connection is the same as on the Preston motors I have. I also like the way you change the gears, no screws or whatever, just pop it in, on one side or the other.

FYI: the digital heden motor uses the same base motor as the DM-2
